Team building begins with the intereview

Building a team in a business starts with the interview process. Not only are skills and experience measured, it’s the first step in evaluating a potential employee’s “fit” into an existing corporate team culture – and their ‘coachability.’ After being hired and placed on a team, there is an immediate need for the skill to establish communication in a way that reflects the culture of the organization. This is critical to meeting project and organizational goals. Teamwork begins immediately with on-boarding and one way to ensure this, is through team building activities.

Each developmental step taken in a business is a movement toward excellence, and perhaps none are as important as the first steps taken in building a team of employees. Team building in a business or organization is essential to ensure productivity, camaraderie and a feeling of success at the end of each day – for employees and for leaders. Unfortunately, not all businesses and organizations see the connection between the office culture, the communication amongst employees or with customers and clients, and the overall success of the business. By building the connections between team players, the company stands to benefit from both social capital and in the return on investment.

One of the most brilliant aspects of team building is that it deepens understanding of the communication styles and effectiveness within a business – and the unique culture of the company. Creative team building activities take the good ideas of teamwork and make them skills and behaviors. This activates a positive cycle of growth for employees and for the business. Essentially, the more a team understands the power of company culture, become ambassadors of that and communicate with excellence, the more clients and customers will feel the “tone” of the business and be more inspired to be a part of the ‘feel good process’ whether though purchasing goods or services, or spreading the word.

Almost any team can use its current culture and methods of communication to meet business goals, project milestones or deadlines. But when a team knows how to engage externally from a powerful and exciting internal culture, the impact is magnified. Creative team building activities tailored to a company’s culture and specific communication styles and methods are the most successful way to ignite team players. Team building activities enhance communication and inspire an organizational environment in which interpersonal bonds are strengthened and companies see direct results through purposely building strong teams.
