Finding Normal: Team Building after an Office “Earthquake”

San Francisco Team Building

One of the best and worst things about business is change. Without it, most businesses end up running in circles, eventually burning out through wasted effort. With change comes innovation, motivation… and, sometimes, a whole lot of fear or intimidation. Changes in business could be as “simple” as moving to a new location or going through the process of re-branding. Or, those changes could be an entire new management structure. Whether your change is a new coffee maker or a new CEO, team building can give you and your team the boost needed to get past the “earthquake” of change… and get back to work.

Let’s say your company just relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, taking several employees with it. Those employees are not only learning their new digs at work, but, they may also be leading their own team building projects at home with their families. That’s a lot of stress to take, on top of meeting business goals and project demands. It sounds like the perfect reason to get some experiential team building going and make some positive, motivated changes right from the start.

But, why?

  • Well, because team building is exactly what it says it is: it builds a better team. Experiential team building takes it a step (or two) further (ask us how!).
  • Neuroscience studies point to the SCARF model in the changing corporate world, and what effective team leaders can do to make change not such a scary thing.
  • Team building fills a void between the “shoe dropping” and the resolution to carry forward. Engaging employees gets their mind off the fear and worry, while quickly giving them tools to adapt. They emerge from the experience better, stronger and more relaxed team members.

As creatures of habit, we try to maintain what we know: our normal. Even through the earthquakes of life and business, we all try to keep a steady course. Being resilient is great, and when you can take a resilient group of people and turn them in to an even greater team of employees, those changes become just “bumps in the road” in the success of your business.
