Why Does Your Organization Need Development?

Do a quick Google search and you’ll find lots of definitions of “Organization Development” (OD), a host of reasons why it’s necessary, and an equal number of “methods.”

What is Organization Development?  Here’s a fairly generic definition:
Organization Development is a planned, coordinated effort to increase an organization’s effectiveness, health and success.

Why is it necessary?  Let’s just say that organizations, like the people who create and function in them, don’t always function at optimal levels.  As the old saying goes, there’s always room for improvement.

Improvement means change.  This gets us to methods.  Since organizations are usually set up with teams of people sharing specific goals and focusing on particular tasks, what are the best ways of encouraging, empowering, and rewarding them, for the benefit of the individual, the team, and the organization as a whole?

For us, the answer lies in building relationships of participation.  And the key to this, as you’re likely to be thinking, is communication.  Clear, effective communication that involves active listening.  This is the core force for change and organization development.
Whether we call it organization development, team building, or leadership training, our facilitation is based on building open and fully integrated relationships of participation, proven to be the core force for change.
