Team Building Your Way to Better Corporate Culture

Is your team building increasing your awesome corporate culture?

Some would argue that “culture” was more about being elegant and globally educated than a glimpse into the relationships, traditions and motivation of a set of people. Perhaps it is the pervasive Internet influence that gives us a glimpse into the cultures of the world that has expanded the meaning. Or, it is the study of demographics by marketing experts that has changed how we see cultures today. In business, all meanings of culture matter, from the board room to happy hour to the preferred smoothie ingredients in the San Francisco area. But, no culture matters more, perhaps, than the culture of your business.

Demographics and marketing are powerful; they tell you how to approach your customers to get their attention, provide information and hopefully make a sale, or at least build a relationship. They are strategic, calculated and can be followed like a flow chart in a call center. Still, it is the culture of your business that shines above the statistics, in customer relations and the overall “team spirit” in your office. Like, when you are trying to sell apples at an orange juice factory. You may get one team member with an affinity for orange juice and who easily develops the right “tangy” relationship, but, it seems the rest of your team is just juggling apples. They’re not, they’re just another part of your corporate culture that has not been developed… yet.

Experiential activities (like juggling) already have the basics of team development in place, and maybe all you need is some creative team building sessions to start pulling all the apples and the oranges together to create your own business culture that naturally appeals to all of your customers. With the right corporate culture, your team is excited and motivated and ready to rock your business goals. The culture shows off the tone of your business, what you’re all about, and the customers you seek will be drawn to it. That’s more than strategy and marketing, that’s real-world connections that you can develop… with team building as the roadmap to building a successful corporate culture.

Facts and figures, demographics and business plans are all vital to the success of a business, but, your team is the force that will use all of that to meet your goals. When each member is integrated into the culture of your business, your goals become their goals… and vice-versa. There are apples and oranges, and there are successful businesses that take the time to blend them together, creating the perfect business culture with just a little twist of team building.
