Joy, community, energy, good vibes – you’ll love it!

Thanks for your interest in SambAAppalachia!
Here is the overview so you have a good sense of what we’re up to.

In the Burnsville, Spruce Pine, Bakersville area, we have officially started an ensemble called SambAAppalachia. We invite everyone and anyone to check it out and join us.
We use the word ‘join’ because everyone in the group is committed to growing and learning as a drummer in a performance ensemble; as such, it really supports when a general commitment is made to attend at least 2 rehearsals per month.

Of course, it doesn’t mean you’ve signed a contract or anything, life happens!
It means that in order for us to continue to learn and grow and rock out (and be ready for the various performances we’ll have), it’s super helpful if – after you check it out and you like it – you can make a regular commitment. If of course it doesn’t inspire you, there is no expectation or pressure. (It really is a ton of fun though!)
No previous musical experience of any kind is required; we have a few drummers with some experience, and many beginners who have never played drums; yet through the process, they have learned quickly.

We play Samba Reggae and derivative rhythms. (Paul Simon worked with Olodum in Salvador Bahia and expanded the popularity of the rhythm.)

Drums are provided for everyone.
If you own a djembe or a Samba drum feel free to bring it – other types of drums unfortunately won’t work.

We have hand drums, mallet drums and hand percussion.
And, this type of drumming primarily requires players to stand while playing.

We usually rehearse every other Saturday, from 2-3:30.
