What’s the Score, Boss? Communication Makes for GREAT Bay Area Business

Communication is the key to Bay Area team buildingLeadership is difficult, just ask anyone who is put in charge of other people, a project or a business. As a leader, maybe you put yourself there when you started your Bay Area company. Or, you worked your way up into management or as a supervisor. Leaders work hard, but there are times when a leader pays more attention to the quality of communication with people in higher work positions, or with clients and customers, than they do with the employees they are leading.

That is a HUGE mistake.

If your employees are ignored, or don’t know they’re helping (or hurting) your company’s goals, your role as a leader becomes far less “leader-y.”  Your team doesn’t know they hit a home run, or that they were walked to first base. If a team doesn’t know the score, how are they going to play out the rest of the game? Effective communication and team building requires good feedback. And, good feedback isn’t always “good,” but it is an essential part of any Bay Area company and leader’s success.

How are you, leader, communicating to your team the successes, the milestones, the failures and your own views of the team you manage? Are you taking the time to communicate with each person in the way that best motivates them?

Much like baseball, corporate teams are not built through e-mail or text messages. No Olympian remembers the heartfelt pep talk from a coach on Facebook. Communication that leads others, inspires them, and provides constructive criticism is more effective when it is done in person. When you’re looking at ways to motivate your Bay Area team, one of the first places to start is with how you are communicating and providing feedback. What are you saying, how are you saying it, how often… and, are you listening when your team responds?

Here’s the pitch (get it?)
